Textbook for Arabic Speakers
1890

Learning to live in America
An Arabic-speaking immigrant arriving in the United States in the years before the turn of the century may well have consulted the pages of this textbook on the English language. The new arrival would have found more than just instruction in American English, however. The textbook also provides advice on proper etiquette, on letter writing and the use of idiomatic expressions, and other kinds of information useful for immigrants trying to understand--and fit into--American society.
