Uncle Sam Advertising Card
late 1800s
"A thing of worth is a joy forever"
So declares Uncle Sam to two prospectors about to buy a crate of B.T. Babbitt's 1776 soap powder--an American-made product apparently worth its weight in gold. During the late 1800s, businesses often used images of Uncle Sam and the Statue of Liberty to promote goods made in the USA.
