Rose of Sharon Quilt
mid-1800s
Nineteenth-century heirloom
The maker of this intricate cotton quilt is unknown. But the painstaking care taken in creating this heirloom is obvious. The center and four corner blocks are appliqued with a large Rose of Sharon variation. The remaining four blocks are adorned with quilted and stuffed motifs: an eagle with shield and flags; an eagle with arrows and olive branch: a grapevine; and a basket of fruit.
