Reflecting Telescope
1980s
The "Odyssey 1"
The "Odyssey 1" is a so-called Dobsonian instrument after John Dobson, who began developing this form of telescope in 1956. Although he had studied to be a chemist, Dobson was by then living in poverty in a monastery. His desire to view the universe was so intense, however, that he was driven to build his own telescopes.
