Hester Posey Sampler
1837
"Weep not my friends as you Pass by/as you are now so once Was I"
Using cross, crosslet, satin, and stem stitches, Hester Posey provides a genealogical listing of her family in this sampler. Below the Posey family record is a pyramidal monument under a weeping willow--a memorial to Posey's deceased sister. Embroidered on the monument are the following words:
"Sacred to The Memory of Margaret Posey Who died Feb 2 A.D. 1824 aged 8 YS 1 Month and 14 days."
To the left of the monument is a verse:
"Weep not my friends as you Pass by as you are now so once Was I as I am now So you must be prepare to meet me in Eternity."
