Commemoration of the battle at Fisher's Hill, VA, 1864
This crudely modeled red earthenware figure shows a man, a woman, a child, and a dog in front of a log cabin. It was made by Levi Beagerly and Theordore Fleet at J. Eberly & Company of Strasburg, VA, to commemorate the 13th anniversary of the 1864 Civil War battle at Fisher's Hill, a Union victory in General Sheridan's Shenandoah Valley campaign. The clay used was reportedly collected from the battleground itself.
