$3,000 Bill
1840
The ill-fated "Bank of the United States"
Adorned with images of American patriots and bearing the grand-sounding title "Bank of the United States," this $3,000-bill became obsolete soon after it was issued in 1840. During the economic turbulence of the early 19th century, the ill-fated Bank of the United States lost its position as the country's central bank and was forced to close its doors.
