Copy of Daguerreotype by J.W. Draper
1893
The first daguerreotype portrait made in America?
Made from an 1840 daguerreotype by J.W. Draper, this image of Draper's sister, Dorothy Catherine, may be the first daguerreotype portrait produced in the United States. This image is an 1893 daguerreotype copy. Draper's pioneering work in early photographic processes won for him a distinguished place in photographic history.
