Clothespin Patent Models
1852-1887

Nine wooden clothespins with patent office tags
From a three-pronged version to one carved in the shape of a human figure, these clothespin patent models illustrate the diverse approaches inventors took to improving the humble clothespin in the second half of the 1800s. Between 1852 and 1887, the Patent Office granted patents to 146 different clothespins.
