The Ten Commandments
This carved and painted walnut plaque was placed over the tabernacle of a synagogue in Philadelphia between 1875 and 1900. The Hebrew script refers to the Ten Commandments God gave to Moses on Mount Sinai. According to the Old Testament books of Exodus and Deuteronomy, the commandments were engraved on two tablets of stone.
